Kirk Cousins Will Have a Career Year
Kirk Cousins will have a career year in Minnesota in 2020. He certainly got on a roll last season after his infamous apology to Adam Thielen following a Week 4 loss to Chicago Bears. Both Stefon Diggs and Thielen publicly complained about the struggling passing attack through the first four games of the 2019 season. But after that loss to the Bears, Cousins stepped up his game.
Not only did Cousins ignite a four game winning streak after a 2-2 start, the first three wins he threw for over 300 yards. After tossing two touchdowns Week 5, he had back-to-back weeks where he finished with four touchdown strikes. Ultimately, his performance for the rest of the season landed him a Pro Bowl selection.
Now, in his third year for the Vikings, Cousins will be more comfortable than ever. With the loss of Diggs, he now only has one receiver to please in Thielen. Subsequently, he still has a security blanket in Rudolph and second year tight end Irv Smith Jr., who proved to be a reliable alternative target in 2019.
While Cousins statistically had good years in the past, where he fell short was his performance in clutch situation. Looking more comfortable with the Vikings, it seems the tide will turn in 2020. After all, he did go down in New Orleans and outplay Drew Brees in the playoffs.
Cousins should enter the upcoming season with all the confidence in the world and with the weapons at his disposal, there is no reason why he wouldn’t have another Pro Bowl nod.
