The Cleveland Browns have done a 180-degree turn on the defensive side of the ball in the 2023 season. Last year, it was their defense that cost them any chance of making the playoffs and being competitive, but this year, that is not the case.
The Browns’ defense has been dominant through the first three weeks of the season. The Tennessee Titans were the first team to even get into the red zone against them, which speaks volumes about how productive they have been.
A driving force behind that success has been the performance of edge rusher, Myles Garrett. He is one of the best in the business when it comes to getting after the quarterback in the NFL and he made Ryan Tannehill’s life a living hell on Sunday afternoon.
Garrett was living in the Titans’ backfield, helping his team to a 27-3 rout. The former No. 1 overall pick put together some eye-popping numbers in Week 3, as he was the highest-graded pass rusher in the NFL.
He earned himself a 93.2 pass-rushing grade with an excellent performance. Garrett is currently leading the league with 3.5 sacks this week and is tied for first with nine pressures. His 34.6 win percentage is also first in Week 3 according to PFF.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to stifle Garrett in Week 2, as his impact was limited on the stat sheet. But the Titans and Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 found no such success as he was a one-man wrecking crew defensively.
Thus far this season, Garrett has recorded 4.5 sacks with four tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits with 10 total pressures per Pro-Football-Reference. His 93.8 overall defensive grade from PFF and 93.6 pass-rushing grade are both elite numbers, ranking second and first overall in the NFL.
