Washington’s Defense Set the Tone

There was a lot of talk about the Washington Football Team fielding one of the NFL’s elite front-seven groups this season. They made the under-manned Eagles offensive line look quite underwhelming in this matchup.

It did not take long for Chase Young to make an impact for Washington and that’s intriguing to see for a No. 2 overall pick. He managed to tie Matt Ioannidis as the team-leader in sacks (1.5) and made some timely plays. Young has real potential to improve throughout the season and take this unit to an even higher level.

With Miles Sanders sidelined, it was easier for Washington to neutralize the Eagles’ running game. It’s still important to get the job done against a favorable matchup and Washington did precisely that by holding Philadelphia to just 57 rushing yards.

There were no shortage of big plays from Washington’s matchup in this game, too. Finishing with 8 sacks as a unit was impressive in itself but adding in a pair of a trio of takeaways takes it to another level.
