1. Mayfield & OBJ Show Potential
The struggles that Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. experienced in Week 1 led to some truly troubling results for the Browns’ offense. Both players managed to bounce-back for strong results against the Bengals.
Aside from an interception on a play-action pass downfield, it was a genuinely strong outing for Mayfield. He managed to complete 16-of-23 (69.6%) pass attempts for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns with that 1 interception. He displayed real poise and consistently made the right play.
It only took 4 receptions, but Beckham Jr. managed to finish his performance with 74 receiving yards and 1 touchdown grab. Perhaps most impressive of all was the 43-yard touchdown he had along with some sequences that showcased his ability to make things happen in the open field.
Getting the job done against an underwhelming Bengals defense is nothing to celebrate, but it was intriguing to see, nevertheless. Next week, going up against the tough front-seven of the Washington Football Team will be an effective measure for where Mayfield and Beckham Jr. are at.
