Philip Rivers Redeems Himself After Rough Start
It has been a largely rough start to the season for Philip Rivers as the leader of the Indianapolis Colts’ passing attack. He was coming off his worst performance of the season and needed to pull off a strong outing to quiet the noise from outside the organization.
The previous two outings Rivers provided the Colts were especially rough. Indianapolis defeated the Bears in Week 4 but he threw for under 200 yards and completed just 55.2% of his passes.
Rivers followed that underwhelming display against the Bears by being held without a touchdown and had two picks in Week 5 during the Colts’ matchup with the Cleveland Browns. In that performance, he also had an intentional grounding that led to a safety.
Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rivers completed 29-of-44 (65.9%) pass attempts for three touchdowns and one interception. It was his first performance of the season with multiple passing touchdowns and he had as many picks (four) as touchdown passes (four).
It will be crucial for Rivers to continue to build on the performance he provided the Colts against the Bengals. If he manages to do so, Week 6 could end up being a turning point in his season.
