The New England Patriots Have Dug A Hole
With the New England Patriots coming away with a loss in this matchup, they now hold a 2-3 record. The margin for error for them to contend in the AFC East has become as thin as it’s been in quite some time.
As ESPN Staff Writer Mike Reiss pointed out, the Patriots haven’t fallen below .500 through the initial five games of a season since 2002. That’s a hole that may be too difficult to get out of if they don’t turn things around in a hurry.
This season was never going to be easy for the Patriots. During the offseason, New England lost plenty of notable players in free agency and to COVID-19 opt-outs— proving to be too much to overcome.
It will be crucial for the Patriots to come away with a win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, or else it will be highly difficult for them to stay afloat in their division. Before then, getting a win in Week 7 is also a must to have the chance to hold a winning record with a win against the Bills.
