49ers’ Offense Looked Sloppy
For a 49ers team that typically executes so well in the little details of offense, it’s strange to see them consistently fail to execute in critical areas. It proved to be too costly to overcome against the Cardinals.
Perhaps the greatest example of the 49ers’ lack of sufficient execution on offense came during third and fourth down conversions. They went just 2-of-11 (18.2%) on third downs while also coming up empty on both of their attempts at a fourth down conversion.
Even when the 49ers managed to take their drives to the red-zone, they genuinely underachieved. San Francisco scored on just 1-of-4 (25.0%) trips to the red-zone in this matchup.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals were perfect but managed to reach this part of the field twice. Arizona also successfully pulled off a first down on half of their 14 third down conversions and never needed to go for it on fourth.
Granted, the Cardinals did have issues with penalties, but their execution in other areas outclassed the 49ers enough to come away with a win.
