Turnover Woes Persist for Cowboys

It wasn’t just Dalton who coughed up the football for the Cowboys. Superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott lost two fumbles on consecutive drives. Both fumbles ultimately led to touchdowns for the Cardinals. Head coach Mike McCarthy had no choice but to relegate Elliot to the sidelines for the majority of the next drive.

Elliot has lost four fumbles through six games. This comes after losing three fumbles over the previous two seasons combined.

The Cowboys lead the NFL in turnovers with 15. They have lost a league-high nine fumbles. No other team has lost more than six fumbles this season. To make matters worse, the Cowboys have the NFL’s worst turnover differential (-12) as their defense has struggled to force turnovers from the opposition.

Turnovers are particularly deadly to a Cowboys team which can’t stop anyone. All four of Elliot’s lost fumbles have resulted in touchdowns by opponents. The Cowboys have allowed 84 points off turnovers this season, the most in the NFL. They yielded 45 points off turnovers all of last season.
