2. Justin Herbert Showed Real Potential
If there is ever a time to say a rookie quarterback was thrown into the fire, Justin Herbert belongs in the conversation. Finding out less than a minute before kickoff against the reigning Super Bowl champions in Week 2 is no easy task.
By the time Herbert’s performance ended, he finished after completing 22-of-33 (66.7%) pass attempts resulting in 311 passing yards, one touchdown throw, and one interception. He also added four carries for 18 rushing yards and one rushing score.
There were a few mistakes Herbert made in his performance, as one might expect from a rookie signal-caller. For example, rolling out left and throwing a deep ball to the right side of the field ending in an interception is a less than ideal sequence.
While the Chargers will be sticking with Tyrod Taylor as their starting quarterback when he returns to the lineup, the long-term answer is Herbert, and he showed precisely why.
