1. Chiefs Keep Finding Ways to Win
It was a genuinely slow start to this game for the Chiefs’ offense. They were forced to punt on their initial three possessions of the game and finally got on the board at the 8:51 mark of the second quarter. Kanasas City remained sluggish and faced a 17-9 deficit entering the final period.
In need of closing the gap in the final period, Patrick Mahomes did what he does best. He connected with Tyreek Hill for a 54-yard touchdown pass and then lead the team to a game-tying field goal on the next possession.
The Chiefs needed a stop in overtime before getting the ball in the hands of Mahomes to get the win. Kansas City’s offense operated well enough to get into field goal range but to add to the theatrics, a false start penalty required them to make a 58-yard field goal to win.
It has become truly fascinating to see how the Chiefs manage to find ways to win games — even in the most difficult of circumstances. They did so in each of their playoff victories en route to a Super Bowl victory.
