2. Cowboys’ Defense Needs to Improve
In back-to-back weeks, the Cowboys gave up just a shade below 40 points to their opponents. Going up against two high-powered offenses in the Falcons and Seahawks certainly doesn’t help, but a team with aspirations of making a deep playoff run can’t make excuses.
In Week 2, the Falcons put up 39 on the scoreboard against the Cowboys — requiring a miraculous comeback effort from Dallas to pull off a one-point victory. There were plenty of defensive breakdowns that didn’t get cleaned up against the Seahawks.
Requiring special teams and the offense to fire on all cylinders in order to pull off a win is not a strategy that works against teams like the Seahawks. The Cowboys allowed Seattle to gain 412 total yards of offense, 3-of-3 (100%) red-zone execution, and 38 points.
There is simply no excuse for the Cowboys to experience shortcomings on defense when they take on the Browns in Week 4. If that does occur, then it’s time to start worrying about Dallas.
