Costly Mistakes in Second Half Plagued The Eagles
The overall level of offensive execution that was on display between the Steelers and Eagles was quite impressive. However, Philadelphia’s offense was forced into a pivotal mistake that changed the flow of the game.
After the Steelers led a touchdown drive to begin the second half, the Eagles faced a 24-14 disadvantage on the scoreboard. Starting with the ball from their own 15-yard line, Philadelphia initially recorded an incompletion and then threw a pick.
As a result of Carson Wentz’s interception, the Steelers took over possession on the Eagles’ 23-yard line. Pittsburgh made quick work of this drive and managed to score a touchdown— furthering their lead to 31-14 with 10:32 left to play.
To make matters worse, the Eagles missed a 57-yard field goal when they trailed 31-29 with 3:18 left in the game. This came after Philadelphia’s defense forced a fumble to help gain possession. The margin for error became to too small from this point on.
