4. Mitchell Trubisky Remains Inconsistent
During the first half of this game, Mitchell Trubisky was playing very well. There was a 15 yard pass to Darnell Mooney in the second quarter where Trubisky showed poise and delivered a beautiful pass. After leading an incredible comeback last week and a strong first half in Week 2, I was starting to buy-in.
If Trubisky starts playing like the Bears thought he would when they drafted him, then Chicago could end up being an elite team. However, while he played well in the first half, the Bears offense had issues the second half. Trubisky and the Bears were held scoreless and almost let the Giants come back and win the game.
It’s quite simple, this offense rests on Trubisky’s shoulders. There was a lot of pressure on him to perform well when the Bears traded up to draft him, and rightfully so. He has to shake that pressure off and just go out and play his best ball and establish consistency in his game.
Although he has yet to find his footing, Trubisky still has potential. The young Bears QB has a lot of athletic ability. He has a good arm as well. The issues for Trubisky appear to be more mental. They aren’t just issues of understanding play concepts and defensive reads, but with confidence, too.
