Turnovers Kept Tennessee Titans From Putting Game Away
It was a truly strong start to this game for the Tennessee Titans. The offense was putting up points and the defense was keeping Deshaun Watson in check, for the most part.
The Houston Texans didn’t allow the Titans to put the game away that easily and nearly pulled off a highly impressive second half comeback. However, that was aided by no shortage of shortcomings by Tennessee in key moments— altering the flow of the game substantially.
The Titans got blocked on a field goal attempt during their initial possession in the second half— setting up a touchdown drive by the Texans. Tennessee then fumbled on their next possession and that gave Houston the ball with 1st & Goal from the 4-yard line, also leading to a touchdown.
Those two initial blunders by the Titans helped the Texans to take a 23-21 lead. To make matter worse, Tennessee had a chance to regain the lead but missed a field goal attempt.
The Titans recovered from their mistakes to overtake a 30-29 lead late in the fourth quarter, but more problems occurred. Tennessee almost immediately gave up a touchdown as Watson connected with Will Fuller V for a 53-yard touchdown.
On top of all that, the Titans then threw an interception on the first play of their drive following that deep ball from Watson…then allowed another touchdown. Overall, it was quite impressive how Tennessee persevered through all of those sequences.
