1. Colts’ Offense Has Room for Growth
It’s difficult to have too much to say about the Colts’ offense on the surface when considering they put up 26 points in what ended up being a 17-point victory. However, Indianapolis could have been better and has some things to clean up.
For starters, doing the work to set up a deep ball in the passing game doesn’t come easy. It’s vital to make the most of those opportunities, especially when the ball is in the hands of a wide open receiver in the end-zone. Now, factor in that receiver in such a position is T.Y. Hilton…that’s got to end in a touchdown.
It wasn’t often the Colts managed to find the end-zone as they did so just twice in this game. A key factor in that was their lack of 3rd down efficiency by going 3-of-11 (27.3%) in those situations — causing many drives to come to an early end before finding the end-zone.
Let’s not forget, the Colts also finished this game by going 2-of-4 (50.0%) on their trips to the red-zone. Against teams that are executing considerably better than the horrible level the Vikings were at in this matchup, it will be vital for Indianapolis to turn more field goals into touchdowns.
