The Minnesota Vikings Came Up Short In Clutch Time
The Minnesota Vikings had multiple chances to lock up a win in clutch time but came up short both on offense and defense. Minnesota picked off a pass from Russell Wilson with a 26-21 lead and 5:56 left to play in the game. Despite those circumstances…they lost.
The Vikings took their final offensive drive all the way to a goal line situation. Instead of taking a field goal on 4th & Goal, Minnesota handed it off to Alexander Mattison for no gain.
Had the Vikings simply attempted the point-blank field goal in that situation, they could have held a 29-21 lead with 2:00 minutes remaining in the game. Russell Wilson ended up leading the Seahawks on a 94-yard touchdown drive to take the lead with 15 seconds left to play anyways.
Taking that chance on fourth down and coming up empty and then giving up a 94-yard touchdown drive is inexcusable in clutch time. The Vikings will be unable to defeat the NFL’s elite teams if this persists.
