The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Defense Needs Work
The Jacksonville Jaguars clearly are in the early stages of a rebuild after having to part ways with no shortage of foundational talents on defense in recent years. It was a struggle for their unit against a desperate Houston Texans team playing with their backs against the wall.
Against the Texans, the Jaguars’ defense gave up 486 total yards of offense with an average of 9.9 yards per pass and 5.9 yards per rush. There was little resistance from Jacksonville— allowing Houston to routinely move the ball upfield.
Deshaun Watson had little issue capitalizing on broken coverages and the pass rush applied minimal pressure to the pocket. That’s a combination that will result in allowing a big offensive performance for just about any opponent.
It has become a habit of the Jaguars to allow their opponents to hang at least 30 points on the scoreboard. Since containing the Indianapolis Colts to 20 points in Week 1, Jacksonville has given up an average of 31.8 points per game.
