4 major takeaways from the Chargers vs. Saints matchup in Week 5

The Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints faced off during Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season as the Monday Night Football game.

The first half featured plenty of impressive play from the Chargers. Los Angeles held a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and followed it up by scoring 14 points during the following period. Overall, the Saints found themselves trailing 20-10 at halftime.

The Saints managed to turn things around by holding the Chargers scoreless in the third quarter while adding three points of their own. Facing a 20-13 disadvantage entering the final period, New Orleans rallied by outscoring Los Angeles 14-7 to force overtime.

With the game-clock expiring, the Chargers had a real chance to win this game but missed the field goal. With the score tied 27-27 at the end of regulation, this matchup required overtime.

It was the Saints that won the coin toss in OT and used their sole possession to make a field goal. New Orleans forced the Chargers to have to pull off a scoring drive, but instead, forced a turnover on downs to win the game with 30-27 being the final score.

Now, the Saints hold a 3-2 record entering a Week 6 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Meanwhile, the Chargers possess a 1-4 record and will look to snap their four-game losing streak when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars next week.

With that being said, let’s take look at four major takeaways from the Los Angeles Chargers vs. New Orleans Saints matchup in Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season.
