Chase Edmonds

With Kenyan Drake fresh out of a walking boot and not at 100-percent, Chase Edmonds could be called upon more often than expected in Week 1 against the 49ers.

Edmonds showed flashes of productivity last season, specifically in a Week 7 matchup against the Giants where he erupted for 126 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. However he suffered an injury the next week that sidelined him for multiple weeks, which was a key reason the Cardinals then traded for Kenyan Drake.

With the 49ers having an elite pass defense, the Cardinals need to get the running game going. The 49ers were an average run defense last season and with a young Javon Kinlaw at tackle, it’s still a little suspect.

Regardless of whether Drake is good to go for Week 1, Edmonds should be at least a small cog in the passing game, much more than Drake. But coach Kliff Kingsbury has said the team is going to be “smart” with Drake in Week 1 and that could mean more reps for Edmonds.
