Philip Rivers

Perhaps the worst-kept secret in the earlier stages of the NFL offseason was the Colts’ interest in signing Philip Rivers. Now, he enters the 2020 season as the starter in Indianapolis after the team decided they needed a more dynamic element to the offense.

After putting together an MVP caliber campaign in 2018, the production Rivers provided the Chargers tanked. In fact, there were numerous occasions when Los Angeles contemplated outright benching him in favor of Tyrod Taylor.

A critical issue for Rivers in 2019 was the Chargers’ lack for a competent offensive line. With the Colts, he will be playing behind an elite group that is returning all of its members. There are no shortage of talented weapons around him either.

For Rivers, his matchup with the Jaguars will be the first opportunity to show the Colts how much he has left in the tank. It’s a favorable situation considering the degree of difficulty, so if he doesn’t execute, then there may be some questions.
