4 most impressive statistics for the New England Patriots from 2019

3. 47 sacks by the defense

When looking at the Patriots’ roster, it’s noticeable that they don’t have any premier pass rushers on the defense. Instead, they have an entire group of consistent guys that find ways to get to the quarterback.

In the regular season, the Patriots didn’t have one player that totaled more than seven sacks. At the same time, they had five players that recorded five or more sacks.

Despite not having a go-to edge rusher, New England still managed to combine for 47 sacks as a defense (seventh-most in the NFL). As a matter of fact, the Patriots only had one fewer sack than the San Francisco 49ers; who have Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, DeForest Buckner, and Arik Armstead.

Of course, the Patriots tend to have success at pressuring the quarterback due to Belichick being involved with the defense. Without Belichick, it’d be interesting to see how many sacks this defense would’ve had in 2019.
