4 most impressive statistics for the New England Patriots from 2019

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

1. 3 players had 5+ interceptions

To piggyback off of the previous statistic, the Patriots had quite a few players that continually made plays for the defense. As mentioned above, New England’s defense combined for 25 interceptions in 2019 (most in the NFL).

Of those 25 interceptions, three players alone were able to haul in five or more of them. Those three players are Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, and J.C. Jackson.

Among them, Gilmore won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award for his remarkable campaign in 2019. The All-Pro corner finished the year with 53 tackles, 20 deflections, six interceptions, and two touchdowns.

Besides Gilmore, both McCourty and Jackson were able to give the ball back to the offense due to their play-making ability. As an illustration, McCourty was targeted only 30 times in 2019 and intercepted five passes. That means he had an interception on every six targets.
