Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Free Agent

Even though the Falcons will always love Devonta Freeman for what he has given them over the years, it’s time to move on. Freeman simply is not a workhorse running back anymore and the offense needs a fresh look at running back.

Melvin Gordon is coming off of a crazy season with the Los Angeles Chargers and is set to hit free agency. He held out for a big chunk of the regular season. In the 12 games that he did play in 2019, Gordon carried the football 162 times for 612 yards and eight touchdowns while also catching 42 passes for 296 yards and another score.

Atlanta should be looking for a dynamic playmaker like Gordon to plug into their backfield. Gordon would take a ton of pressure off of Ryan and the passing game. This seems like a match made in heaven, but Gordon’s contract may be difficult for the Falcons to afford.
