1. TE Jace Sternberger
A third-round pick (75th overall) out of Texas A&M in 2019, Sternberger was limited to six games by an ankle injury last year and he did not register a catch during the regular season. In the two playoff games, he had three receptions and a touchdown.
The Packers made the obvious decision to release Jimmy Graham. So shy of signing someone (Delanie Walker?), or drafting a tight end, it’ll be Sternberger as the clear TE1.
Sternberger can’t be judged on his rookie season at all, but his 2018 campaign at Texas A&M (10 touchdowns, 17.3 yards per catch) showed what he can do. He looks to be a clone of what Graham was in his pre-Green Bay prime.
The Packers have not had a real threat at tight end for some time, since Jermichael Finley really. As opportunity knocks, they’ll be hoping Sternberger capable answers the door.
