Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions will have Matthew Stafford back from injury for the start of next season. Having a more balanced offensive attack could help with keeping Stafford from taking a beating and acquiring a running back like Leonard Fournette would help.
The current backfield situation the Lions face is headlined by Kerryon Johnson and Bo Scarborough, so they can benefit from making an upgrade at this position. To put into perspective, Fournette produced more rushing yards than Detroit’s top three running backs combined last season.
There was significant hope surrounding Johnson’s potential after an impressive rookie season but he failed to build off it. Meanwhile, Scarbrough displayed flashes of potential but isn’t a solidified lead back. There isn’t much reason to believe they will take leaps in their development in 2020.
It’s not easy for the Lions to attract talent in free agency and that makes it crucial to capitalize on opportunities that present themselves. The Jaguars moving on from a talented veteran at a devalued position is precisely the kind of opportunistic move Detroit should make.
