Aaron Rodgers
Maybe the biggest/best reason the Packers are going to defat the Lions is because of Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers picked apart the Vikings defense as he threw for 364 yards, 4 touchdowns, and finished with a completion percentage of 72.7, which was 14.2 percentage points higher than his expected completion percentage according to Next Gen Stats. Rodgers likely would have had more yards if his receivers wouldn’t have dropped his passes.
While Rodgers did flat out dominate the young Vikings secondary, there is no reason he shouldn’t be able to continue his dominance.
The Vikings did face a lot of turnover this off-season as they had to bring in multiple young corners with one of them getting significant snaps against the Packers, and while the Lions don’t have as young of a cornerback group as the Vikings, they still don’t have the kind of cornerback group you want going against Aaron Rodgers.
Against the Packers, the Lions will likely be throwing out the likes of Amani Oruwariye and Desmond Trufant, both of whom struggled against the Bears. Detroit may have their young rookie cornerback Jeffery Okudah back, but he may still struggle as this will be the first NFL game of his career.
Since the Lions don’t have the best cornerback group in the NFL, one would hope that they would have some quality pass rushers, but unfortunately for Detroit, they don’t. The one player that the Lions do have is Trey Flowers, but Flowers will likely be lining up against one of the best pass blockers in the NFL in David Bahktiari.
Without any quality defensive pieces, and with Aaron Rodgers being Aaron Rodgers, expect Rodgers to continue his dominance
