Coaching
After the 2017 season, the Detroit Lions moved on from Jim Caldwell and hired Bill Belichick disciple, Matt Patrica. The Lions were hoping that Patrica would be able to help lift this Lions team over the hump and get them to the playoffs, but unfortunately for them, things have seemingly gone in the opposite direction
Through 27 games, Patrica is 9-22-1. The Lions have a seemingly old school feel on offense and defense as they utilize the running game, and don’t have a very flexible defense.
While the Lions moved on from Jim Caldwell after the 2017 season, the Packers did the same thing a few years later with Mike McCarthy. After 12 years with the Packers, Green Bay fired Mike McCarthy in the middle of the 2018 off-season.
There were many names being considered for the head coaching job for the Green Bay Packers, and when Matt Lafleur was selected for the head coaching job, many people were surprised.
LaFleur is a descendent of Mike Shanahan and the Shanahan coaching system which features a lot of play action and a lot of zone running plays.
Many people were worried about how well LaFleur would do as a first time head coach, but after one season, many people are happy. Lafleur first season he led the Packers to the NFC conference championship game.
The coaching matchup will likely get ugly for the Lions, as LaFleur loves to use motion in his offense and use jet sweeps, meanwhile the Lions and Patrica aren’t flexible at all and may struggle with the Packers offense
