4 Reasons The Patriots Will Upset The Bills In Wild Card Matchup

Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are set to take on the Buffalo Bills tonight in what should be a very entertaining Wild Card matchup to watch. Two AFC East rivals taking each other on with everything on the line is must-watch television. Can the Patriots pull off the upset to move forward in the playoffs?

There are a lot of people who believe that these two teams are completely evenly matched. Some believe the Bills have the advantage and others believe the Patriots do. The fact of the matter is that both of these teams are more than capable of making a deep run in the postseason.

New England, led by rookie quarterback Mac Jones, are confident in their ability to compete against anyone. They have been strong all season long. No one should expect them to fold now.

All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at four reasons the Patriots will end up pulling off the upset over the Bills.

4. The Defense Is Capable Of Making Plays

First and foremost, the Patriots will need to focus on slowing down star quarterback Josh Allen. He is a very difficult quarterback to stop, but New England has a defense that could do it. Led by JC Jackson in the secondary, they could turn the momentum of the game with a big play or two.

If the Patriots can force a turnover or two, that could be enough to give them a win. Jackson especially will need to step up. He has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL this season and that must continue this week.

3. New England’s Run Game Can Be A Major Threat

Next up, the Patriots will be needing to lean heavily on their ground game. Rhamondre Stevenson and Damien Harris will be the two players New England will focus on getting going. They are both quality running backs who could take a ton of pressure off of Jones.

Buffalo has a very good defense and no one will argue against that. They are a strong group and are full of playmakers as well. If the Patriots want their offense to move the ball consistently, the run game will need to be a big part of the game plan.

2. Mac Jones Rises To The Occasion In Big Moments

Throughout his entire career up to this point, Mac Jones has been able to make the plays his team has needed from him. That will be the case once again this week in his first career playoff game. Jones is going to have a solid game and will put his team in a position to win this game.

He’s the kind of guy that can make a clutch game-winning drive if he is put in that position. Even as a rookie, the Patriots have full confidence in his ability to carry them in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Jones can indeed live up the hype that we believe he can.

1. Bill Belichick Is The Ultimate Playoff Coach

Finally, as long as Bill Belichick is the Patriots’ head coach, they are going to be a serious contender. He has always found ways to win football games and his adjustments are unmatched by any other coach. This reason alone gives the Patriots a great chance to pull off the upset.

Belichick was blessed with the presence of Tom Brady, but the quarterback was far from the only reason Belichick has had so much success in New England. As can be seen by how the Patriots have played with Jones this season, the head coach’s football genius speaks for itself. New England is in great hands and Belichick is without a doubt the best coach in this matchup.
