The San Francisco 49ers will enter the 2020 season as the reigning NFC champions. They will have Super Bowl aspirations once again and it will be led by their defense.

San Francisco added Javon Kinlaw to the defensive line with the 14th overall pick in April’s draft. He joins Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead to a dominant front. Armstead signed a massive contract extension while Bosa will be a front runner for the Defensive Player of the Year award. The 49ers lost DeForest Buckner as he is now in Indianapolis but their defense will still be a huge force.

In the secondary, San Francisco is going to have some decisions to make following the season. They have many players heading to free agency in 2021 such as Richard Sherman, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Jaquiski Tartt. That is a problem to worry about down the line but for the upcoming season, the secondary in San Francisco will be strong.

The 49ers will begin their season with a divisional game against the Arizona Cardinals. When the two teams take the field, the 49ers will be favored and expected to show up on both sides of the ball.

With that being said, here are three predictions for the San Francisco defense in Week 1.
