49ers: 3 Implications from Jimmy Garoppolo’s Torn ACL

Expect more sacks given up

Beathard is not a good quarterback when under pressure. Pro Football Focus ranked him 39th against the blitz (66.0 rating) and gave him a ranking of 35th for passer rating against pressure (42.3 rating).

It’s not a comforting statistic to look at as the 49ers are already the fourth-most sacked team in the league. A lot of this isn’t because of the line, but rather because of Garoppolo holding onto the ball for too long.

However, it still causes for concern as Beathard takes over. He was sacked 19 times in the five games that he started, which is nearly four sacks a game.

Beathard would also force throws when under pressure as he was also given a ranking of 29th on turnover-worth throws (3.9 percent) by PFF.

The Beathard era wasn’t a promising one when it started midway through the 2017 season. And it’s not looking too hopeful after Garoppolo’s injury.
