Limit Derek Carr’s Receiving Options
If there’s one thing the 49ers defense needs to worry about, it’s the Raiders signal caller. Not is he a big part as to why Oakland’s passing game is ranked 11th in the league, but he’s rated as the second-most accurate passer by PFF.
#Raiders quarterback Derek Carr ranks second this season with an 81.7% adjusted completion percentage (accounts for dropped passes, throw aways, etc) ☠️

The offense is going to rely on the Fresno State product as he’s averaging 37 passing attempts per game. And with a run game that’s currently without Marshawn Lynch who’s on injured reserve then it means he’ll be pass happy all game.
But it’s not the receivers the 49ers need to worry about. As the Raiders do have reliable targets in Jordy Nelson, Seth Roberts and Martavis Bryant at wide receiver, the real threats are with tight end Jared Cook and running back Jalen Richard. These two are in the top three for the team in both receptions and receiving yards.
It’s going to be a lot to ask for as inside linebacker Reuben Foster and safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Antone Exum are ruled out.
It will be up to the young and talented reserve players to take over in stopping these weapons. Guys like Fred Warner, Jimmie Ward, and DJ Reed are going to need to step up in this scenario to limit these players.
