Getting Pressure on the QB
One game this year that shows why getting after Carr is so important was when the Seahawks played the Raiders. The fifth-year quarterback took six sacks and hit 10 times, and it limited the offense to just three points.
The 49ers have a chance to do this as they face an offensive line that’s struggling. From right tackle, Donald Penn playing out of position and their left guard is underperforming as well.
With the continuing improvement of Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, and Ronald Blair, this should be their chance to show they’re making a breakthrough with their pass rush. However, they need others to contribute in a better way. Cassius Marsh is someone that brings in pressure but is unable to finish when given the chance. And former third overall pick, Solomon Thomas someone that can’t make an impact yet.
It’s going to be a lot to ask for as Buckner goes up against center Rodney Hudson who’s first in pass blocking efficiency on PFF.
Getting to Carr and preventing him from making plays is the best chance the 49ers have at winning this game.
