C.J. Beathard
This would be tough for 49ers fans, and front office, to see happen, but C.J. Beathard is the odd-man out at QB.
With Jimmy Garoppolo has the bonafide No. 1, Nick Mullens has shown a ton of promise a resourceful backup. This puts Beathard in a situation where he isn’t needed. There were rumors tied to the 49ers trading him away at last season’s trade deadline, so it’s evident that his time in San Francisco could be decreasing.
The 49ers also signed undrafted QB Broc Rutter, who could eventually be Nick Mullens as the backup in a few years, yet another sign Beathard isn’t needed.
In reality, it makes sense for the 49ers to wait until a few weeks in the season to see what QBs go down and which teams are in need of a backup. But injuries can occur in training camp and Beathard could be used as a solid backup for some teams.
