2. The Pass Protection was the Weakest Part of the Offense this week
If there’s one thing that’s apparent against the Rams, it’s that the 49ers were pressured all game. The team gave up seven sacks, 13.5 tackles for a loss, and 12 quarterback hits.
Even more frustrating is just how much Rams defensive lineman, Aaron Donald dominated with four sacks, six tackles for a loss and five quarterback hits. Going into the game he only had four sacks, and he matched that with just this game.
It was an embarrassing showing for this unit that before this week was ranked sixth by PFF. It’s been the case for a while now as well. The team is currently ranked 31st in sacks allowed and tied for second-worst in quarterback hits allowed.
It’s nothing that’s just because of the play by Beathard either. During Garoppolo’s time as the starter, he was sacked nine times and hit 22 times in three games.
None of this is going help the team win games.
If the 49ers want their offense to perform better, then they need to protect the quarterback better.
