2. LB Fred Warner
The Bringham Young product is beginning to look like a steal from the 2018 Draft.
He’s currently ninth in the league in total tackles with 77 and recorded double-digit tackles in the first four weeks of the season. And he’s only getting started as the rookie linebacker has asserted himself as the starting inside linebacker.
His consistent play is something refreshing and needed with the regression of second-year linebacker, Reuben Foster. It’s going to be a lot to ask from the former Cougar as he looks to be the only linebacker that is at least meeting expectations.
The 49ers need to find a new SAM linebacker in replacing Malcolm Smith and have Foster playing like he was in his rookie campaign. If the team can create a more cohesive linebacker unit, then the team can return to the form that they had during the Harbaugh era with guys like Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, and Aldon Smith.
But for now, let’s enjoy the emergence of Warner for now until the 49ers figure out what they’re going to do with the rest of their front seven.
