San Francisco 49ers: 5 Takeaways from Halfway Through the Preseason

Garoppolo Is Coming to Midseason Form

The 49ers’ starting quarterback’s first preseason game was underwhelming. He only completed three out of his six passes for 34 yards. It wasn’t a strong showing for a quarterback that had been the highest paid quarterback at the time of his signing.

Fortunately enough, Garoppolo came back strong this past week with an impressive performance. He appeared in two drives (one more than last week) and had a near perfect night. The Eastern Illinois product went 10-for-12 passing for 136 yards and one touchdown.

He was making all of the right reads, standing firm in the pocket, and making all of the throws. His best throw came on a 40-yard pass to Marquise Goodwin on a third and seven while facing pressure.

Garoppolo did come away with one unfortunate error as a result of a dropped pass by Dante Pettis that went intercepted by the defense. However, Garoppolo was showing that he can command the offense and drive them with perfect precision and awareness.

If he can bring this same skill set into the regular season, then the 49ers offense will be a hard one to stop.
