The San Francisco 49ers entered the previous NFL season with a strong belief in their abilities, confident that they were the best team in the league.

Their sights were set on proving this in the NFC Championship Game. However, their hopes were shattered when quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a devastating injury, leading to the 49ers narrowly missing out on a Super Bowl berth.

Now, the 49ers have returned to the NFC title game and are prepared to host the Detroit Lions at Levi’s Stadium this coming Sunday. The victor will earn the opportunity to face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl 58.

This journey back to contention has not been devoid of challenges. Purdy dedicated most of the offseason to recovering from surgery to mend the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) he sustained during the previous season’s NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 49ers commenced the season on a high note, securing five consecutive victories, but faced a stumbling block with three losses in October.

Nevertheless, the team exhibited resilience and clinched the top seed in the NFC, along with the invaluable advantage of playing on their home turf during the postseason. In a thrilling Divisional Playoff game against the formidable Green Bay Packers, the 49ers emerged victorious with Purdy orchestrating a game-winning touchdown drive in the closing minutes, sealing a hard-fought 24-21 triumph.

Purdy revealed a hilarious quote about the team’s Super Bowl hopes this season.

“We weren’t trying to think too far in the future,” the quarterback continued. “We knew, Green Bay coming in, it was going to be a good game. To be able to pull through at the end like that was huge. Now for us to now focus on the NFC championship. We’re all drooling over this opportunity.”

Having successfully weathered the Packers’ determined challenge, Purdy and the 49ers are now heavily favored with a touchdown advantage in their upcoming clash against the Lions.

Hopefully, their drool will find success this week against the Lions to land a Super Bowl bid against either the Kansas City Chiefs or Baltimore Ravens.
