49ers: Predicting the 2020 NFL regular season record for San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers were just over six minutes away from a Super Bowl victory in 2019.

But then, Patrick Mahomes happened, with the Kansas City Chiefs scoring three touchdons in the final 6:13 of play and winning Super Bowl 54.

It’s not doubt that the 49ers will once again have their eyes on the Lombardi trophy. But with a much tougher NFC West division to go through, it will be no easy task.

The defense will once again be relied on, and should be one of the best defenses in the league. They did trade away DeForest Buckner, but drafted highly-touted Javon Kinlaw with their first pick. Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa will look to repeat his monster year in 2019, and guys like Richard Sherman and Fred Warner need to be leaders on the defense again.

Where this team desperately needs to see improvement is on offense, starting with QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The monster that is George Kittle will be back. But Garoppolo no longer has Emmanuel Sanders or Marquise as a wide receiver option, but Deebo Samuel should take the next step in his second year in the league.

San Francisco used their first-round pick on former Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk, who could it perfectly in the 49ers system. At running back, Raheem Mostert could be the guy for the Niners but he needs to prove it.

All in all, this is a San Francisco team that now has targets on their back. Their 13-3 regular season last year was their best record since 2011. Can they repeat their success and get back to the Super Bowl?

Let’s predict the 2020 NFL regular season record for San Francisco.
