49ers: Predicting the 2020 NFL regular season record for San Francisco

Second Quarter of the Season

Week 5 vs. Miami Dolphins

Another team that has the ability to make some noise is the Miami Dolphins. They’re a team that’s still in the middle of a rebuild, but Brian Flores brought in a ton of solid signings this offseason and drafted hopefully their franchise QB in Tua Tagavailoa.

While the Dolphins may be underrated this season, the pass rush of the 49ers is going to be too powerful for their offensive line. The 49ers will come out hot after the loss to the Eagles, with Aiyuk having his breakout game, and stomp the Dolphins to get back in the win column.

Week 6 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Going up against the Los Angeles Rams will arguably be the toughest test of the season to this point. It’s a very good secondary and pass rush, but offensively, Jared Goff and Co. can be inconsistent. Each team’s run game will be a by-committee basis.

Ultimately, the secondary will give Garoppolo fits and multiple interceptions will hurt Jimmy G. The 49ers will drop to 4-2 and 1-1 in division play, losing the a Sunday Night Football matchup.

Week 7 at New England Patriots

No more TB12 in Foxboro, as the Patriots are at the start of a new era with Cam Newton. It is the first time Garoppolo will be playing against the Patriots since being traded back in 2017.

The Patriots, not only without Tom Brady, are without a core number of defensive players who have opted out of the 2020 season. The 49ers will get the win in Foxboro, using a ground-and-pound attack and getting after Newton with the pass rush. Up to 5-2 the Niners will go.

Week 8 at Seattle Seahawks

Another division rival, the Seattle Seahawks are arguably the biggest threat to win the division along with San Francisco. The addition of Jamal Adams, and another year for D.K. Metcalf to develop makes the Seahawks a dangerous team.

Playing at CenturyLink will be a big factor, with or without fans. The Seahawks will just have a bit more in this one, with Russell Wilson taking Seattle on a game-winning drive late in the fourth. The 49ers reach the halfway point of the season at 5-3.
