Quarterbacks

The quarterback position is set in San Francisco. They traded for Jimmy Garoppolo in 2017 and they believe they landed their franchise quarterback. Garoppolo signed a five-year deal worth $137.5 million in February of 2018. He played just three games in 2018 because of a torn ACL but was under center every game in 2019.

Garoppolo threw for 3,978 yards with 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2019. He was heavily criticized for his performance in the postseason. The Niners committed to the run game during their Super Bowl run.

During the Divisional Round, Garoppolo threw for 131 yards against the Minnesota Vikings then followed that up by throwing the ball just eight times versus the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. In the Super Bowl, he threw two interceptions and failed to hold onto the lead against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There should not be a doubt that Garoppolo is a franchise quarterback. He is in the perfect situation with a dominant pass catcher in George Kittle, a strong run game, and an elite defense. Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard will serve as the backups to Garoppolo but if all goes right, they will not see much time in 2020.
