Aldrick Robinson
Though the 49ers lack a true number one wideout, their receiver room is undoubtedly loaded with talent.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s rapport with Marquise Goodwin only looks to have improved during training camp, while Pierre Garcon is a tough reliable veteran starter who can still make a difference on routes at every level and excels making contested catches.
Kendrick Bourne emerged as a physically imposing and intriguingly athletic talent late in a 2017 season that saw slot receiver Trent Taylor thrive from the slot.
Versatile second-rounder Dante Pettis is a lock to make the team and, with seventh-rounder Richie James also flashing in camp and preseason, veteran Aldrick Robinson appears to have an uphill fight on his hands to make the team.
James and special teams ace Aaron Burbridge, another to catch the eye in camp, have the age advantage over Robinson.
Yet, per Jennifer Lee Chan of Niners Nation, Robinson has been making “ridiculous contested catches”. It is obvious Robinson, who made a difficult 33-yard catch against the Cowboys, can still contribute to a team.
However, with younger options available to San Francisco, it doesn’t make sense for that team to be the Niners. What would make sense would be for the 49ers to showcase him heavily in preseason and then try to deal him to a team that can make better use of the final year of his contract.
