Stephon Gilmore Shuts Down DeVante Parker

Stephon Gilmore, the Defensive Player of the Year of 2019, was nearly perfect for the Patriots last season – hence the DPOY. But in Week 17, DeVante Parker light up Gilmore to the tune of eight receptions for 139 yards.

For Gilmore, as soon as the Pats’ schedule came out for the upcoming year, the Week 1 matchup vs. the Dolphins had to have extra motivation for it. The 139 yards was the most given up all year by the Patriots and the eight receptions were the most receptions given up to a wide receiver.

Because of this, Gilmore will shut down Parker essentially to be a non-factor. Looking at the rest of the Dolphins’ receivers, expect Preston Williams to have a better start than Parker in this matchup.

DeVante Parker had a career year in 2019 with 72 receptions, 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns. But his 2020 will kick off will begin very limited by Gilmore and the Patriots’ secondary, with four catches and under 50 yards receiving.
