Deshaun Watson Puts Up His First MVP-Type Performance Of 2020
Bill O’Brien’s post-game presser was, in some ways, amusing. When asked about the loss to Pittsburgh and the Texans’ 0-3 start, one quote stood out: “We haven’t played anybody in the division yet.”
For years, the Texans have relied on a porous AFC South for padded victories. This year, not only has their opening slate been the toughest in the NFL, but their division is too. If they’re going to redeem themselves from this 0-3 start, it begins and ends with one principle. Getting Deshaun Watson going.
His body certainly won’t agree, but Watson had a well-played game against Pittsburgh in Week 3. He took five sacks and a dozen QB hits in the game against the Steelers, including T.J. Watt’s game-winning one on the last possession. For the most part, though, he played a solid game.
If O’Brien and the rest of the Texans coaching staff watch film this week, it’ll likely become obvious that they should try to get him out of the pocket. And this would be the team to get that started against.
We’ve watched as Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, and Ryan Tannehill provided film on how to defeat them. The run game has to be established, so play action becomes a threat. If it does, expect Watson to work his way into a 300-yard, 3-touchdown game.
