5 dark horse potential Super Bowl contenders in 2021 NFL season

The NFL season is in the midst of camps and team activities to help them gear up for the start of another season, and we are certainly on board for what could be one of the most entertaining NFL seasons in recent memory.

There are a lot of great teams who could be considered as a dark horse team to win the Super Bowl in 2021, and we’re going to try to get an edge. Every single year, there are teams who jump from non-contenders to serious contenders. Plenty of other teams have gone worst to first in just one offseason of work.

Let’s take a look at five potential dark horse Super Bowl contenders as we enter the 2021 NFL season.

Dallas Cowboys

I know and completely understand that this take may seem like a stretch, but the Cowboys have all the tools to be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender in my opinion. Quarterback Dak Prescott is healthy again and he got a nice pay raise this offseason, so his play on the field is expected to be optimized to the max. The Cowboys will also have a healthy Ezekiel Elliott and one of the league’s best receiving corps back on the offense, which will surely help the team contend with some other high-scoring programs.

Dallas did a lot of work on their defense this offseason, and if they perform a lot better than they did a season ago, the Cowboys could put themselves in a great position to succeed.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are starting to look like the NFL equivalent of the Brooklyn Nets, and it would be insane to exclude them from this list. The Cardinals have one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL under center in Kyler Murray and he will have one of the league’s best receiving corps to throw to.

The Cardinals’ receiving unit features so much talent including Deandre Hopkins, AJ Green, Rondale Moore, Andy Isabella, and Christian Kirk, and they will surely help Murray as he aims to make the playoffs in his third season under center. The Arizona defense was vastly improved this offseason as well, and the Cardinals could be poised for an outstanding season that sees them hoist the Lombardi Trophy when it’s all said and done.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a team that cannot be ruled out of Super Bowl contention just yet, as they still have the majority of their key pieces on the staff. Jameis Winston, who was a former number one overall pick, is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Saints in 2021 and he has grown a lot in his maturity and in his leadership this offseason.

Winston under center is the biggest question mark, but he already has a stronger arm than Drew Brees did over the past two years and with the majority of the key pieces still on the roster in Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Marshon Lattimore, and Demario Davis, the sky is certainly the limit for the Saints. The Saints should always be a Super Bowl option as long as Sean Payton is still the head coach of the team.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans have one of the most stable rosters in the NFL, and for whatever reason they seem to never be in the conversation as a potential Super Bowl team. Ryan Tannehill is a top six quarterback in the league, and the way he runs the offense with 2,000-yard rushing back Derrick Henry in the backfield should not go unnoticed.

The Titans now have a revamped receiving unit following the addition of Julio Jones, and Tannehill will have all the options in the world to throw the ball downfield to. The Titans’ defense is no slouch, and they could certainly help the Titans win the AFC South again and make a legitimate Super Bowl run in 2021.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns took the league by surprise in 2020 when they made it all the way to the AFC Divisional Round and nearly knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs, but this year they could have what it takes to bypass Andy Reid and the Chiefs.

The Browns, who have one of the most entertaining and organically built rosters in the NFL, are primed for even more success in 2021, and the league should certainly be on notice. Baker Mayfield has made incredible strides as the QB1 in Cleveland, and the sky is the limit for how this team could perform as a whole.
