Minnesota Vikings
The NFC North is another two team race. The Minnesota Vikings finished 10-6 and three games behind the Green Bay Packers. There was this strange feeling that the Vikings were the better team despite the outcome. This season, there is no doubt.
This notion began when Minnesota marched into the Superdome and defeated the New Orleans Saints on wild card weekend. Kirk Cousins agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $66 million. This extends the Vikings’ window to try and win their first Super Bowl. Cousins is heavily criticized because of his contract, as if he is the only overpaid quarterback in the league. Cousins is a franchise quarterback. No, he is not a Tom Brady or Drew Brees, but not many are. Cousins is a player that can win a championship with the right team around him.
Minnesota had one of the best drafts in 2020. They traded Diggs to Buffalo and needed a receiver. That receiver was Justin Jefferson at No. 22 in the 2020 NFL Draft. Xavier Rhodes was let go leaving a hole at cornerback. The Vikings used the 31st pick on Jeff Gladney. Minnesota added Ezra Cleveland in the second round.
The Vikings are a team that has endured plenty of heartbreak in it’s history. It is time to change the narrative and it could begin as early as this year.
