5 Free Agents Suggested As Possible Fits For Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys extended their Divisional Round losing streak to seven games in this past season’s playoffs. They were eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers for the second consecutive year and will be seeking out upgrades to ensure that streak doesn’t reach eight.

Dallas hasn’t advanced beyond the Divisional Round since they won the Super Bowl for the 1995 season. That is a long time to go without hoisting the Lombardi Trophy and Jerry Jones will do everything in his power to change that.

As things currently stand, the Cowboys are still over the salary cap, but that will change sooner than later. They will certainly be making some moves and a few suggestions of possible targets have been mentioned.

Defensively, finding a partner opposite of Trevor Diggs could be near the top of the team’s to-do list. If they go right to the top of the market, Jamel Dean of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be an ideal target. Daron Bland is the only other reliable corner on the roster as Anthony Brown cannot stay healthy and Jourdan Lewis was injured last season.

At the second level of their defense, the Cowboys could use another linebacker to pair with Micah Parsons. Bobby Okereke would be a nice replacement should Dallas be unable to re-sign Leighton Vander Esch, who had a great 2022 after some middling seasons.

Needing to shore up the interior of their defensive line, Teair Tart of the Tennessee Titans could be on their target list. The Titans are in a bit of a teardown when it comes to their roster, meaning Dallas could swoop in with an offer that Tennessee wouldn’t be comfortable matching.

The Cowboys desperately need more production from the defensive tackle spot as they were abysmal stopping the run. In the trenches on the offensive side, guard Will Hernandez could be a target as well.

Hernandez had a strong bounceback season in 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals after struggling to find his footing as a second-round pick of the New York Giants. With Connor McGovern, Jason Peters and Terence Steele hitting free agency, offensive line depth could be needed.

In addition to offensive line depth, the offense needs an infusion at the skill positions. Adding more speed to take pressure off of CeeDee Lamb would be ideal and Mecole Hardman could make for a cost-efficient target.

Hardman showed how versatile he could be as he lined up all over the formation for the Kansas City Chiefs last season. An injury limited him to only eight games, but he was a weapon in the red zone and had a nose for scoring touchdowns with six total. He would bring an added dimension to the Cowboys’ offense that they are currently lacking.
