Adam Gase, New York Jets
The start of Adam Gase’s tenure with the New York Jets was rough. They got off to a 1-7 start to the 2019 season and there were loud calls for him to be fired. The Jets decided against moving on from Gase after closing out the second half of the season by going 6-2 during that stretch.
The bar has been raised for New York considering the potential they displayed during the back half of their 2019 slate. The only way to improve from a wins-loss standpoint would be to at least finish with a .500 record.
A lot will be dependent on the development of Sam Darnold. If the Jets post a similar record but at least can see growth in the young quarterback’s play, the pathway for the future could at least be seen.
The Jets haven’t been hesitant to move on from underwhelming general managers or head coaches in the past. If Gase fails to get the job done in 2020, he almost certainly wouldn’t be an exception.
