Seattle Seahawks
Many consider Russell Wilson as being one of the top potential candidates fr the MVP award during the upcoming season. He’s done a tremendous job of staying healthy primarily due to his ability to extend plays and escape sacks. Trusting that to always be enough isn’t a great course of action.
Even after free agency and the NFL Draft, there are some potential concerns with the Seahawks’ offensive line. It would simply not be wise to enter the upcoming season without having a backup quarterback with a higher upside to compete with Geno Smith for the top backup role.
The New York Jets afforded Smith with a full-time starting role during the first two seasons of his career. He produced an 11-18 record in 29 starts during that period and recorded 57.5% of his passes for 25 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.
It would be simply too difficult to trust Smith to produce at a high enough level if the backup quarterback was ever needed by the Seahawks in a meaningful game. Not having another on-roster option to compete for that No. 2 spot on the QB depth chart.
