Arizona Cardinals
There is a lot of optimism surrounding the Arizona Cardinals. With Kyler Murray entering his second season and now having DeAndre Hopkins, they could impress many in 2020. They still need to be prepared in the event Murray were to get injured and miss time.
The 2017 season featured the sole year of Hundley’s career when he was needed to start in place of an injured starter. During that particular year, he appeared in 11 games (9 starts) and competed 60.8% of his pass attempts for 1,836 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
A player that has a 3-6 record in nine career starts like Hundley simply doesn’t have the track record of Kaepernick. There would be little reason to have confidence in Arizona’s ability to stay afloat if they had to rely on him to take the field and produce.
Having both players compete with each other for the primary backup quarterback role would either provide an upgrade or at least keep Hundley sharp. There is little downside to at least allowing Kaepernick to compete in training camp for a spot on the 53 man roster.
