New England Patriots
The New England Patriots continued to run the table in the AFC East with a 12-4 regular-season record. That didn’t translate to success in the playoffs as they lost 20-13 to the Tennessee Titans in the NFL Wild Card Round. Now, they appear to be in a transition period and primed to take a step back in 2020.
There were a variety of key departures the Patriots experienced between Tom Brady, Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, and Danny Shelton. New England is going to rely on Jarrett Stidham to fill the starting quarterback role next season despite only having three career appearances and two completions.
Not only will the Patriots be facing an unknown when it comes to Stidham at the starting quarterback spot, but they also have a difficult schedule. They are set to play seven games against teams that earned a spot in the playoff picture in 2019 and have a three-game road trip.
It’s tough to ever doubt a team led by Bill Belichick and there’s certainly a chance they surprise outsiders next season. It just doesn’t seem like the Patriots will end up achieving those kinds of results in 2020 unless Stidham manages to hit the ground running and play at a high-level.
